Isaiah 43:18,19 READ
“Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.
Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.”
I'm gonna do a new thing! What is a new thing? New—something that has never before been used!
He is doing something in your life today that has never before been done. How many has ever lived Feb 3, 2008 before? You already know the outcome of it? You've done been down this road? NO! None of you have ever lived this day before. You dont know how its gonna turn out. So how can you think you do? You havent been here yet!
Old things have passed away, behold, all things have become new! You are a brand new species of being that has never before existed FOR THIS DAY! He said Im doing a new thing!
The 1st step to embracing the new thing what God wants to do in your life is to:
CHANGE YOUR FOCUS-- CHANGE YOUR PERSPECTIVE! QUIT LOOKING BEHIND YOU! START LOOKING AHEAD!!!
Forget the past! Forget 2007! It's behind you! If you are continually looking behind you cannot see where you are going. Paul said, 'This one thing I do, 'Forgetting the things of the past and look forward to the things in front of me'”.
If you are ever going to move on to new things in Christ you must learn that you cannot depend upon the past to sustain you. You cant even look where you are now...you have to look at where HE said you'd be! The problem with many in the church they want to look at where they've been or where they are now but you have to see yourself as Christ sees you! BEHOLD, I WILL DO A NEW THING!
The children of Israel had many victories in their past:
1. Leaving Egypt
2. They Conquered the Land of Canaan
3. They battled and won against those who should have beaten them
4. Survived a split in their country
But now they are in captivity. All their previous victories were doing nothing to set them free. The faith you had yesterday was great enough to get you through yesterday. But God said, I'm doing a new thing so yesterday's faith wont help you any. Yesterday's pain wont help you any. Yesterday's pity wont help you any. Yesterday's blessing wont help you any! Yesterday's shout wont help you any! He's doing a new thing! Something you aint never seen before. You aint never experienced what He has store for you.
The question isn’t what has God done –the question is: What is God doing in your life right now?
In order to move on to new things in Christ you must know that ...
You Cannot Allow Your Past Failures to Possess You
... do not dwell on the past.
The children of Israel had failed God miserably. Every time He blessed them and did something great for them, they rejected it and gave him back evil things:
1. God gave them the Temple - they gave Him idol worship
2. God gave them truth - they proclaimed a lie
3. God gave them His commands - they lived like they were suggestions.
4. God gave them wealth - they used it to abuse the poor
5. God gave them Himself - they gave Him nothing except rejection.
The children of Israel did not deserve to receive anything from God. Yet He still loved them. You don't deserve it but he said I'm gonna do it anyway! You don't have to walk in it but you can if you want to!!!
Notice God’s Word to them:
“Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.
Behold, I will do a new thing;” God was not condemning them for their past, they could'nt do anything to change their past. Instead God was saying Im gonna change your future.
If you are going to get anywhere in your spiritual life you must understand that You Cannot Live on Yesterday’s Faith
The children of Israel had experienced great spiritual blessings throughout their history. From the first Passover, to the crossing of the Red Sea, to the conquering of the Land of Canaan, to the building of the temple, the children of Israel had seen the hand of God at work in and through their lives. Yet their faith in what God had done was doing nothing to deliver them from their present situation.
Let me say that again... their faith in what God had done was doing nothing to deliver them from their present situation.
Their old faith was not sufficient enough to de-liver them from their present problems. What you went through in 07 is exactly that... you went through it! It's completed! It's over! He slammed the door shut in 07. And when God shuts a door no man can open it and when opens a door no man can shut it. And he shut it! Everything you went through is done. Its over. The mess in 07 only came to see how you would respond to it. What you went through in 07 is for what he's about to do with you in 08.
Shocho- where David fought Goliath. David, the son of Jesse. How many sons did Jesse have? 8. David was the 8th son of Jesse. All the other sons of Jesse, the brothers of David could not do what David did. The meaning of Shocho is a place of closing doors. Your at Shocho.... your in the valley. Where your giant is about to die! Every victory gets won in the valley. You don't win the victory on the mountain top. There's only one reason your in the valley... You go through the valley to kill the giant! You go through the valley for one reason and one reason only.... so you can stand on the slain carcass of your enemy and declare there's no giant in your life big enough to defy the living God!!!!!!
The valley is not where your going to die, it's where your giant is going to die!
You cant kill the giant on the mountain top. Whatever you are fighting in this valley.. dies in this valley. You got to learn to embrace the valley your in cause that's where your victory is won. I love this valley! Shout it! God brought you to this valley and one of you aint leaving, whether you or your giant. Which one is it gonna be?
Lord, I thank you for the mountains and I thank you for the valleys
And I thank you for the storms you brought me through
For if I never had a problem I'd never know that God could solve them
And I'd never know what faith in God could do.
But Through it all, thought it all
Ive learned to trust in Jesus, and I've learned to trust in God
Through it all, through it all, Ive learned to depend upon his word.
THE MESSAGE BIBLE:
"Forget about what's happened; don't keep going over old history.
Be alert, be present. I'm about to do something brand-new. It's bursting out! Don't you see it?There it is! I'm making a road through the desert, rivers in the badlands.
It's busting out! You got to know its not just a new season... IT'S A NOW SEASON! Now it shall spring forth... At this time, in this moment, henceforth and hereafter... FOREVER! A now season generates its own energy. Its happening now! Its not gonna happen... its not coming.... its not might be here.... ITS NOW! Its springing up now... He said “shall ye not know it”. Let me make that a little easier to understand... Don't you see it. There it is! Can't you feel it! HE said it... NOW! 07 is complete... 08 is a new door.
The 2nd step to embracing the new thing what God wants to do in your life is to
II. CLARIFY YOUR FOCUS -- DISCOVER WHAT GOD WANTS FOR YOU
Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.
Perceive [GR yada’, yaw-dah’ prim. root]: to know by seeing; care, recogni-tion, acknowledge, aware of, understand.
Application: What do you see when you view your life? Do you see possi-bilities or problems? Notice what God said:
I am making a way in the desert
and streams in the wasteland.
The children of Israel had a choice. They could view their past and the prob-lems of their present, or they could focus upon what God wanted to do in their lives.
Way -vs- Desert
Streams -vs- Wasteland
In order to discover what God wants for you, ...
A. You Must First See Yourself as God Sees You
The children of Israel felt as though they were getting just what they deserved because of the way they had lived. Some even believed that God would never have anything more to do with them. But they were wrong!!!
You may feel like your past has made your life a wasteland but in God, your life can become a stream of life.
Romans 8:1,2 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.
Colossians 1:21,22 21And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled 22in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight
In order to discover what God wants for you, ...
B. You Must See Your Possibilities as God Sees Them
I am making a way in the desert ...
God is able to transform the desert areas of your life into fields of blessing and abundance. God can take a dried up useless life and trans-form it into a life of purpose and grace:
2 Corinthians 3:17,18 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
The greatest step to embracing the new thing what God wants to do in your life is to
III. COMMIT YOURSELF TO GOD’S PLAN
God had already set into motion the events and people who would lead Israel out of captivity and back into the land of blessing. But it was still up to them to decide if they wanted what God was offering. If they refused God’s plan, if they refused to follow where God was leading, then they would be doomed to remain in their captivity.
I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.
God has already set into motion a new direction and a new purpose for your life -- will you follow Him?
